Diesen Song haben Eric Clapton und BB King mal susammen aufgenommen. Und als ich den heute mehr oder weniger zufällig auf Spotify hörte, dieses penetrante: You wanna marry me? Isn’t that what you want too? – da habe ich gedacht: So alt waren die Säcke noch nicht, als sie das aufgenommen haben. Aber was singen die alten Säcke da eigentlich?

Dann habe ich aber mal genauer hingehört:

Aber was die beiden da vom „sweet sugar“ säuseln, von der Hitze der Nacht, von der Zeit, die sie verbringen wollen, explodiert in der Enthüllung, wo „das Ganze“ passieren soll, nicht etwa in der Öffentlichkeit eines Traualtars, sondern auf dem Rücksitz eines alten Ford Baujahr 1957 (Siehe Kierkegaard (der das schon mit einiger Hellsicht erkannt hatte): Liebende suchen die Einsamkeit!).

Im Grunde ist der Song eine Homage im Rahmen eines alten Klischees, der Liebe auf dem Rücksitz von Dadys Auto. Und so gesehen, ist das doch ein Song zweier alter Säcke. Schämt Euch! Habt Ihr das noch nötig? – Andererseits, that might be the way to heaven for two dirty old men…

(Übrigens, der Titel/Refrain „Marry YOU“ gibt die Stoßrichtung vor. Denn normalerweise sagt der Lover, der was „Ernstes“ im Sinne hat, doch: Marry ME!)
